NHS Scotland Selects FairWarning for Patient Privacy Auditing and Monitoring in Scottish Health Information Exchange and all Boards.

ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. – May 4, 2011– FairWarning, Inc., a leading global supplier of solutions which monitor and protect patient privacy in Electronic Health Records, today announced that NHS Scotland, comprised of 14 area NHS boards throughout Scotland, has selected FairWarning® to enhance patients’ privacy.  NHS Scotland selected FairWarning® through its partner Northgate Managed Services, based on previous success providing privacy auditing and monitoring at NHS Lothian and NHS Fife.

The NHS in Scotland employs nearly 132,000, including more than 8,500 doctors, and provides comprehensive healthcare through both hospitals and community health services.

Selection of FairWarning® by NHS Scotland signifies a strong, country-wide commitment to patient privacy protection. Through selection at the country level, NHS Scotland has enabled every board in Scotland to implement patient privacy auditing and monitoring. Implementation of advanced privacy protections furthers the NHS goal of providing clinicians with all information about a patient regardless of where the patient is seen.

FairWarning® will be auditing and monitoring a variety of healthcare applications, including Emergency Care Summary, Scottish Care Information Store, and InterSystems TrakCare Patient Management System.  These systems are core to the Scottish Health Information Exchange.

“We treat very seriously the management and security of data,” says Jackie Stephen, head of eHealth for NHS Borders. “The introduction of a privacy surveillance solution will help us as we strive to ensure compliance with the Data Protection Act and provide assurance to all patients across Scotland that their data is safe and secure.”
