Drug diversion is a growing issue at healthcare facilities, with the potential to harm patients, reputation, and security. There’s also evidence that it’s vastly under reported. According to drug diversion expert Commander John Burke, President of Pharmaceutical Diversion Education, there are an estimated 37,000 drug diverters in the United States each year extrapolated data from healthcare facilities in Ohio – the outcome was an estimate 37,000 drug diverters per year- yet only 300 cases are reported.
