John Houston

John Houston

Vice President, Privacy & Information Security and Assistant Counsel
University of Pittsburgh Medical Center

Mr. John Houston is the Vice President, Information Security and Privacy, and Associate Counsel for the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center (UPMC).

In this position, he has broad accountabilities across UPMC, including accountabilities related to privacy, information security and legal matters associated with the acquisition, licensing and use of technology. Mr. Houston is also an Adjunct Assistant Professor in the Department of Biomedical Informatics in the University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine. Mr. Houston has been significantly involved in UPMC’s compliance with the privacy and security provisions of the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) and the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act. Mr. Houston has testified twice before the United States Senate’s Health, Education, Labor and Pension Committee and once before the US Senate Judiciary Committee. Mr. Houston has also spoken nationally and internationally regarding such topics as health care privacy and health care information systems.

Michelle De Mooy is the Deputy Director of Consumer Privacy for the Center of Democracy & Technology. Her work is focused on promoting strong consumer privacy rights through pro-privacy legislation and regulation,

working with industry to build and implement good privacy practices, and analyzing emerging privacy concerns. Michelle currently sits on the Advisory Board of the Future of Privacy Forum, a privacy think tank, and has been a panelist and featured speaker at many events related to digital privacy, including Federal Trade Commission workshops, the Internet Governance Forum, Health Privacy Summit, and the State of the Mobile Net.

Dave Summitt is the Director of Information Security and HIPAA Security Officer for Moffitt Cancer Center & Research Institute. Prior to joining Moffitt Cancer Center,

he was the CISO for UAB Health System and was with Bayfront Health as an IT & Network Security Manager and HIPAA Security Officer. Dave also had an esteemed 20 year Federal career within the DoD in which he held various positions including Information Security Officer (ISO) and a Data Security Custodian for a major missile defense system. He has had extensive experience in high exposure, high technology organizations. His experience spans computing systems, network administration, network security, policies, risk management, compliance, and development of security awareness training programs. Dave is a Certified Information Systems Security Professional (CISSP) and is a member of a number of IT organizations including ISACA, ISSA, Florida InfraGuard, and St. Petersburg College Advisory Board for CE Health. He has his BS from University of South Florida and MS from Norwich University.
