FairWarning Executive Series Webinar
What’s at stake? Security, trust and the future of healthcare
In order to compete and win in today’s heightened security environment, care providers need to secure and protect their applications that hold the mother-load of patient information, in real-time. This includes their Electronic Health Records as well as all their supporting cloud-based applications like Salesforce and Office 365.

These are perilous times for healthcare organizations. According to the Ponemon Institute’s Sixth Annual Benchmark Study on Privacy and Security of Healthcare Data, nearly 90% of healthcare organizations have suffered data breaches in the past two years, at the cost of more than $6 billion industry-wide.
Every healthcare organization now faces a large variety of cyberthreats, including:
Phishing (including spear phishing and clone phishing)
Crime-ring-sponsored insurance fraud
IRS tax fraud (perpetrated with stolen employee data)
Healthcare organizations, in fact, are now targeted for data theft more than any other industry. And large healthcare organizations are particularly tempting targets for cybercriminals.
Mercy Health is the largest non-profit healthcare system in Ohio. The organization consists of 23 hospitals across Ohio and Kentucky, along with hundreds of offices, clinics, and care locations. In recognition of the escalating threats to patient data, the organization has been working to improve security and enhance compliance standards.
Denny McLean is the Enterprise Security Compliance Manager for Mercy Health. Deborah Reif serves as Mercy Health’s Privacy Officer. In this webinar, Denny and Deborah describe their efforts in keeping a large healthcare organization’s data safe and secure.
They reveal the single largest risk that their healthcare organization faces. And they discuss why they (and virtually all other healthcare security professionals) believe that the attacks from cybercriminals targeting the healthcare industry will only worsen.
But it’s not all bad news.
Denny and Deborah have been very successful in using FairWarning Patient Privacy Intelligence to build an effective security team. They describe their team-based approach to organizational data security and detail the very impressive results they’ve achieved in improving data security.
Also in this webinar, FairWarning’s CEO and Founder Kurt Long, along with Director of Managed Privacy Services, Chuck Burbank, spend some time discussing current challenges and threats facing healthcare.

Kurt also talks about the hacker’s-eye view of healthcare—why healthcare data is such a tempting target, and the vulnerabilities cybercriminals see that helps make healthcare the most frequently targeted industry. And cybercriminals aren’t targeting only your healthcare organization’s patient data; they’re after more. Kurt discusses what and why.
It truly is a perilous time for healthcare industries. But it’s also a time of hope, with progressive organizations leveraging cutting-edge tools and techniques in forging formidable defenses against data theft. This webinar provides a state-of-the-industry look at both the unprecedented threats facing healthcare, and the reasons for optimism in countering those threats.
